  • Changeling Translation Guide

No, I'm not expecting Onyx Path to produce one. I'm looking at the possibility of the fans producing one. I'd like this thread to be dedicated to finding your favorite elements from Changeling the Lost and translating them for use in C20; once C2e is released, I'll start a thread in that forum for going the other way around.

First, I think the easiest starting point would be to use C20's “make your own Kith” system to translate CtL's Kiths into CtD terms. For each one, CtL gives us a concept and one of the Birthrights…

C2e's Seemings look like they could be ported over to C20 (mechanically, at least) with little trouble: the Breaking Points in C2e easily become Triggers in C20, for starters. Add a Trigger immunity and a Temper adjustment (with the default being the way Wilders do it), and you've got the mechanics covered.

    More thoughts later; work calls.

Pledges game mechanic is awesome and while I love Oaths, their exalted moods and literal poetry, the idea of magical barter/bazaar permeates me since Hellboy 2!

Goblin pledges provide a lot more of poetic justice and regular pledges can be just as powerful and impactful, as CtD Oaths, if time and effort are spent on making them that way.

I think the True Fae can add some great antagonists in The Dreaming.

        Why's that?

If anything, I was very surprised that a Demon translation guide got released first before any Changeling translation guide. Plus, for me it makes way too much sense to release one for Changeling at least by this year: C20 obviously but also CtL2 looking (at least from my perspective) to be released later this year.

Facts on the ground have changed since Demon, what with the new White Wolf and all. Also, DTG strikes me as an experiment that OP tried that didn't go so well.

But that's just me. If they do end up producing a CTG, I'll be thrilled. But I'm not holding my breath, and I'm not waiting for them to do it. Now that we've got C20 and a good idea of what CtL2e will look like, why wait?

            What facts?

Did someone from nuWW or OPP make a statement saying that nuWW wasn't interested in approving more translation guides? Or is this speculation based on how adding more Translation Guides when WoD5e is just around the corner and might present conflict of interest?

How exactly was it an experiment that didn't go well?

(I'm not familiar enough with either Demon games to know, and as such is why I currently haven't read the DTG)

              Speculation.

It's strictly my impression of the book and the history of its production, which strikes me as something that started out well enough but ended up being something that only got published to keep the promise they had made. Again, just my impression; and again, I'm not saying that a CTG won't be made, only that I personally am not expecting it and will not be sitting on my hands waiting for it to happen.

                Anyway…

The concept of CtL's protagonists fits surprisingly well into C20, it you want to include both varieties. You can't call them the Lost, as that's a type of Dauntain in C20; but with a tiny tweak, the Refugees fit right in.

That tweak? The Arcadian Way. When a changeling (usually, but not always, an Arcadian Sidhe) leaves Arcadia, his soul invades a human body, replacing the native soul. That soul gets sent to Arcadia, where it takes on a physical form that gets warped by Arcadia's nature: the Arcadian Sidhe's victim becomes a faerie creature trapped in Arcadia.

A rare few escape, using their innate tie to the mortal world to find their way back. Reclaiming their humanity, they become a different kind of changeling: human souls in faerie bodies.

Would Arcadian Fae abducting mortals to provide new dreams for their realm work or is it too grimdark? Because it's the simplest explanation for me.

It's no more grimdark than what the Arcadian Sidhe do in C20 — less so, in fact, as there's an implication that the Arcadian Way might murder the human soul of the body that the Sidhe comes to reside in.

Changeling is meant to be grimdark, just as much as it's meant to be bears with balloons.

People were so nice and kindly to the fae because the fae would eat their souls, destroy their homes, and steal their children if they didn't.

I see no conflict at all.
