  • 1001 interesting character ideas

I thought it would be fun to do one for Mage (all factions and the Sorcerers) as well. Please, no more than two at a time.

    1) A Cultist has discovered a way to help people who've lost certain senses (taste, touch, etc) feel again through him. Example: A person who lose their sense of taste can enjoy a candy bar with the Cultist eating it and then mentally passing his feelings to them via the Mind sphere. Interestingly, this talent has gotten the attention of members of the local Vampire community who would like the "Pleasure Dealer" to help them feel again.

    2) An Ineration X member who specializes in psychology (especially in realm of emotions) has created technology to help sense hidden emotions, body language and psychological issues to help in negotiations, interrogations and treating the mentally ill. But her desire to "help everybody" is starting to lead her into Marauder territory (though she can still be talked out it).

    3) A pair of Iteration-X members, together with a Tradition Cabal, have found way(s) to help blind people by substituting their lack of sight with a combination of hearing and touch. All would be well, except that the Iteration-X members get an anonymous tip (through an SMS) that they will soon face charges of making deals with the Nephandi.

    4) A Frozen Widderslainte has joined the Technocracy! Having made the choice to be a member of the Technocracy rather than the Nephandi she seems to a model young member of NWO. A Tradition Cabal arrives in the city to judge her - through Chakravanti divinations, Chorister ordeals, Verbenae gaeses... This is excellent time for the young NWO member to use her training to either help the Tradition members abandon their views, or to neutralize them; and perhaps to remove them from the city.
    (The Nehpandi are watching...)

I suppose some Prime (at least) would be needed to give such benefit to the Kindred.
I do wander what will happen when such a Mage attracts attention of the Followers of Set? And what if those Setites will call the Clan Elders (up to Methuselahs) ? I don't know the details of Setite philosophy, but wouldn't such a Mage be deemed to be quite interesting and possibly respected by the Followers of Set? (due to this "Opposing the Aeons" thing they have going on?)
Nice way for a Cultist to get some allies that can also provide contacts in regards to getting drugs :-P. Quite fitting partnership!

      5) A NWO member discovers his teenage daughter has manifested her magical abilities. And all was going well to introduce her into his convention until she discovered the Technocracy's hand in helping the Nazis. Having befriended a Jewish Holocaust survivor she does yard work for, this revelation repulses her to the point never wanting to associate with these "Nazi butchers". Now he is torn between his love for his rebellious, (now) Hollow One daughter and his duty to the Technocracy. (The idea of deprogramming her scares him.)

        6) A young Magic Man of the Syndicate has sworn to himself that he will establish a legendary Prime Venture as a video games developer. Due to an amazing stroke of luck, he managed to contact and secure funds for a daring group of individuals. Those individuals - some of which he already took a liking to, after a design & planning session turned into a party - have just announced that they are a specially chosen Tradition Cabal. A Verbena, a Virtual Adept, a Son of the Ether, a Cultist of Ecstasy and a member of the Order of Hermes.

Naturally, they announced that the game(s!) will follow themes and storylines appropriate for promoting a Traditionalist view points and perception of the world. After all, the Traditions members outnumber the Technocrats 5-1 in this particular company, don't they?

          7) A budding modern primitive who has awakened is discovered by and taken in by the Celestial Chorus. Fascinated by the Tradition, he is experimenting with the concept of experience bringing one closer to The One. From flesh hook prayer and hymn singing, tantric sex, reenacting Jesus' walk through the desert and Buddha's tree meditation, etc. And so far, his Chorus-meets-Cult-of-Ecstasy theory kinda works.

            8) A South American anthropologist turned Dreamspeaker has studied the Nasca lines since before he was Awakened. Rejecting the idea of alien influence, the Speaker has incorporated the creation of massive overland images as an Instrument. Using only simply surveying tools and a plow, he etches designs into flat stretches of desert, all by himself, as a means of enacting large Rituals.

              9) All but one of the members of a small branch of a company manifest their Avatars at the same time. After being set up by the Traditions, they turned their workplace into a Chantry and make sure the slacker (but useful) pretty boy who is still a Sleeper never finds out.

                10) A blank slate artificial person of obviously non-Technocratic origins. Internally made up of what looks like some kind of joint venture between an Etherite and a Hermetic, displaying machinery, strings of runes, and what might be a phylactory at the heart of it all. It awakens with basic skills, some advanced skills, and a personality, but no real memories to speak of, let alone an explanation of why it has an Awakened Avatar. Whose phylactory lies within? Is that the source of its power, or does their Avatar come from somewhere else?

For added fun, don't give it any levels in Matter, 3 dots in Life, and stipulate that Life magick does not affect the character.

                  11) She was 10 when it happend. She was collecting rice at her uncle's church when she started to see "Them" , The Lonely People. She was living a dream.
Always interested in the occult and in the graveyard behind the local church, she started to wander around and learn more about the ones who Lived there, The Lonely People. She coudnt go around telling anyone so, she wears a fake face by the door, a face of childish curiosity through the eyes of someone too calm and too recolect. Her uncle, Father McKenzie its a holy man who would "Burn her at the stake" if she was going around talking about the things she "Alegedly" can do. Not only that, but he bears the cross of childrens who died on a local hospital, he prayed for them and he carries the burden of knowing that god doesnt save the kids. She lives in her own little world of Whispering Shadows and Poetic Ryhms, Followed by her Cat (Familiar) she wants to amend and show her Uncle that even if the world might look cruel and fill with darkness, sometimes the shadows cast a more beautiful image than the light. She is now 11, she is a Hollow One, and her name is Eleanor Rigby.

                  12) William Sheers was a Taxi driver obsessed with mathematics, he used to fade out while doing mental exercises. One day something happend, something clicked on his mind. Probably the stress of the job, the lack of sleep or the realization that everyone has a price to pay to live. His recurrent nightmares of the War, no one knows for sure which war he went to. But some believe that he was incharge of taking care of the corpses of fellow soldiers, friends and strangers aswell. Something broke on his mind. Now he lives obsessed believing that one must pay a price for life, for wealth, for power. He drives this untraceable taxi through the streets of the world (Or insomnia city as he calls it), He "Charges Taxes" of the Living...Cutting and taking things, pieces of flesh, ideas, concepts, memories. No one can live a good life with out having to pay a price, right?. Even if his methods are..Gruesome, he will make you pay a price for your comfortable life (Marauder). After all, the price he had to pay was his own sanity in order to become a Force of the Universe, to turn the balance back

                  13) Jackabollock Warren: His life was divided between order and chaos, his mother was a hippy who ended up joining a cult, she died when he was 11. He didnt cried, His father was a rough man who send Jack to become a lawyer in a firm.
Jack Warren keept a normal life, supressing every emotion he could. Keeping everything within himself, not saying anything to anyone except if it was related to his own work. Not knowing what Free Thinking was and stuck in a black and white society of repetition. As his father lied on a hospital bed connected to life support machines, Jack decided to clear his father's documents and house finding old pictures of his mother as well things from "Back in the day." . Perhaps the supressed memory of the world of colours and free love he knew triggered something. Life isnt always black or white. Suddenly this almost ghostly apparition of the picture of his own mother just made him think, remember.. overthrown by a strange sensation he decided to try drugs for the first time, perhaps to reconnect to that world that he left behind. Heading to Hyde park, lying down and taking a mixture of LSD, Marihuana and Ectasy. he lied there, sitting on an english garden as his mind started to melt and crash into mixed memories of places, of when and where. We are all togeather he thought as the hallucinations started to invade him, crying as he sat on a corn flake of universes. The egg that was his skull broke open to the universe, realizing he was Jackabollocks. Seeing the Police man flying trying to put him back togeather on his workspace, he ran away crying tears for millions through the Hallucigen universe. Yellow matter custard dripping from the moons dead eye's. Everything was a metaphor as he was guided by the figure of his mother. The expert texter suddenly became a joker, waking up to a new everchanging universe and reality. Suddenly he became Jackabollocks of the Cult of Ectasy. Stuck in a living manifestation of the 60's. Emisary of the Walrus totem.

Yeah, i been dwelving too much with the beatles music lately, sue me.

                    14) A trickster Marauder who believes herself to be the living incarnation of Coyote. One of her latest tricks is drugging random Sleepers and then inking them with these beautifully done tattoos. (Example: a ten-year-old boy now has a pin-up girl version of Lee Ann Milner on his lower right arm, a late middle aged CEO has tribal tattoos on his face, a 30-something Jewish housewife who has cherry blossoms swirling around the Akashic Brotherhood logo on her throat, an elderly church pianist with Technocracy symbols on her hands in a rainbow of colors, etc.) The only real magic any of the Mages, Technocrats and Crafts can see is that the tattoos will never fade and all the targets feel compelled to keep them. So while these groups are worrying, scrambling and some even blaming each other as if this will lead to some hidden plan, all our trickster is doing is leaning back, laughing at them all.

                      15) A Verbena Technowitch who learned from her mentor the secrets of Crystal magic, and then started applying to crystals used in industry. For example, she has a wrist watch which she can use the quartz within to control time. One of her biggest achievements was building a computer circuit board out of Bismuth (she calls it her Grand Mother Board). Her mentor is somewhat confused by her insistence that this really was what he had taught her, and other verbena tend to avoid her, considering what she's doing as not real magic.

                        16) A Syndicate who has creating his own media empire through the internet by doing lowest common denominator web series (one called, "Lolcows" and documentaries (one on art done by psychos and drug addicts). As well as giving promising net entrepreneurs and entertainers their start through loans and not just lowbrow ones. He's the "Prince of Cyber-Trash" and he's damn proud of it.

You could say that, but replace the SJW aspects with a Troma film style trashiness.

                              17) A Hermetic of House Thig/Verditus who was the product of a secret government cloning experiment that went nowhere (feel free to use this to justify any sort of Merit or Flaw you wish, as a result of the selective breeding). When the project shut down, the Hermetic and twelve of his surviving "siblings" were placed in homes across the country. After being picked up and trained by the Order of Hermes, the new Hermetic decided to take to the road, looking for his fellow clones. He drives a magically enhanced sports car, with a suped up engine and a Trunk of Holding, and the ability to use Correspondence to cut down on travel time. Because all his fellow clones share the same genetic lineage, they share a Sympathetic connection, through which he can track them all down. A compass sits on his dashboard, dowsing towards the closest "sibling". Our Hermetic wanderer won't rest until he's met and dealt with his "family"...one way or another. Not all of them look forward to a family reunion...and not all of them are nice.
