  • LA by Night: Second Inquisition Helmets

Hello, I wanted to ask if there are already books out on how the Helmets of the Second Inquisition work and where I can find the rules for them. The ones that were used in the show, to break any possible Domination on the wearer.
Thanks in advance, and I wish you all a wonderful day.
    best regards

Can you point me an episode where they appear? I've heard of it but am not really familiar with the series.

I believe they first appear in Season 5, Episode 1: Tower of Glass

Essentially it was a helmet that could blast presumably sound (and possibly) visual stimuli to snap somebody out of Dominate. I had an ST pull a similar trick they had troops attack us wearing something like a motorcycle crash helmet. The mirrored face meant they could see out but made it next to impossible to get eye contact, they then built-in noise-cancelling headphones with a closed comm setup the troops could use to communicate.

Pedro de Castillio I'd say you can probably represent their effect in a few ways:
        1) Have the headset grant the wearer a power akin to Fortitude Unswayable Mind (V5 corebook pg.258). I.E. have the helmet grant some extra dice to resist the effect of Dominate powers.

        2) Have the helmet mean that a wearer always counts as a 'prepared' target. Several Dominate powers (e.g. Cloud Memory Pg.256) don't require a roll against 'an unprepared mortal victim'. When the helmet triggers startling the wearer from their stupor their mind actively resists allowing the user a roll to resist the power.

        3) Have the helmet make someone straight-up immune to Dominate. Probably the most overpowered and boring option, but if you really needed something to not care about Dominate you could justify it as some very rare cutting-edge experimental model.

Starting from a V20 understanding on the Discipline, the simple version would be already a lot useful and within the rules. Mirrored visors are enough to increase the difficulty of Dominate, and once the power starts, the commands all depend on mundane verbal communication, so if you make it impossible for the user to hear or understand them, most of the power becomes useless until the vampire get rid of the device.

I think those suggestions are really good, and there may even be several prototypes with varying effectiveness and reliability. Anyway, this particular Discipline has always had this built-in weakness to explore, it isn't hard to justify any level of protection.

This protection would at most come with some inconvenience that justify not using it all the time. Usually the sensory limitation caused is enough for it.
