Ideas for a Staff Fetish?

The CoG Ragabash who is a iskakku Martial Artist wants my Theurge to turn his staff into a Fetish.

A bit of background on the Ragabash: He was born of Black Furies and adopted by the CoG. The Sept is water oriented, so he is the sailor of our pack. This character is more attuned to Black Unicorn than the usual peace loving CoG. The Brosimum rubescens staff itself was carved by the Ragabash's father, so the staff is important to the character.

We brain stormed for a bit and touched upon two ideas:

1. See if we can get a less powerful avatar of Black Unicorn to consent to be bound to the staff. Is this even a thing?

2. The Fetish could have some sort of fear effect on Banes. Not sure about the mechanics behind this idea.

Anyone else got any ideas for a good staff Fetish? Yes, I realize I need to run all these by our ST, but I figured I'd troll for ideas here first.

Any suggestions of Canon Staff Fetishes would be appreciated too.

Sure. Black Unicorn acts as a pack Totem, so each of his packs has a unique avatar of Black Unicorn spirit running around.

2. The Fetish could have some sort of fear effect on Banes. Not sure about the mechanics behind this idea.

Mechanics would probably depend a bit on how you want this to manifest. Do you want to do a Gandalf "You Shall Not Pass" move that causes Banes to flee for a short period of time? Do you want an aura of menace that weaker banes will avoid, but stronger ones can power through? Do you want the power to cower a bane at a time with fear so it is powerless? There's a lot of options with fear effects.

Anyone else got any ideas for a good staff Fetish?

Well, if you want to keep up with the Black Unicorn theme, I think there's a lot of options in something a bit boring, but practical, defense boosting options. The ability to defend others would be particularly useful since the game doesn't really give a good default for that. There's a Mage Wonder from Forged by Dragon's Fire that gives the staff wielder extra actions that can only be spent on defensive options, and can be used to block fire arms attacks. Being able to do that for other people would make defending the innocent in combat a lot easier.

I've made staff fetishes that act as gnosis batteries that also function to ward off/weaken banes in my games. There is also the battle mandala gift that drains essence. Could be a neat feature to add to a staff.

If you want a story flavored idea have a rattle that mimicks the sound of water on the staff that when activated makes your opponent have the sudden sensation of drowning or being crushed under a massive body of water. It could sap their actions, give them penalties to their rolls, or just straight up do some damage.

That would probably have the same type of spirit as the Kitsune's As-You-Will Sleeves empowering it, since it was the origin of the concept that said fetish was based on (Hammer & Klaive).

I think it would be much harder to convince a jaggling avatar to be bound into a fetish instead of a gaffling. Gafflings aren't supposed to be really sentient while jagglings are. I think any jaggling would be extremely reluctant to become a fetish. Is there any reason why you can't find a gaffling of the Black Unicorn?

If you are looking for mechanical fear effects, there are various Gifts you could use as a baseline. Staredown, Howls in the Night, True Fear, Howl of the Banshee, Visage of Fenris, or Paralyzing Stare could work as a guide depending on what exactly what you want to model. You might also want to look at the Spirit Whistle fetish which makes spirits run away in fear.

Have you considered an effect like the Harmony Flute? It's not fear-inducing, but it seems like something a Child of Gaia and an iskakku martial artist might like to use.

Ooh, I like this idea. I suppose you'd want an air spirit, or at least some kind of chaotic wyld spirit, for this effect?

Yeah the monkey king staff is a classic power...

But how about a river spirit bound to the staff so you can make the ground slippy based on your gnosis roll and tapping the floor, so either increases the people effected or area of phantom slick.

What about a cane that you can stick in any surface and be pulled or moved by it, as if was your own personal elevator?
