  • Explosive stats?

Hello the in the W20 book there are no stats for explosives. How much damage would an explosive trap hidden in a hotel room-service cart do?
Something like “Hello, room service. Your dinner is ready”. The waiter enters the hotel room pushing a cart with some plates on top on lots of dynamite hidden by the cloth… and bum!!!

Would adding silver powder or shrapnel (like pieces of silver cutlery) around the dynamite make it aggravated?

W20 states, that Sterling-Silver is 90% pure and would rigger Silver Rules for Garou. Silver jewelry is 80% pure and it is ST's decision if it triggers the silver rules. Silver cutlery is usually pure enough, says google.

Cutlery would make the damage lethal, and agg non-soakable to garou not in breed form. The explosion would also make the damage lethal, I guess.

A grenade is about 12 dice of damage, irrc. There aren't information in the core book of W20 or revised, besides NPCs having grenade in there inventory. The 12 is from a vampire companion, iirc. With a cartoon-ish amount of dynamite (or other explosive) in a serving-cart the number of dice could be a lot higher.
Possibly start with everyone at "Incapacitated" and roll Rage to remain active to start the scene....
Everyone not making a single success should be treated before the scene ends of might be dead. Free Battlescare for all non-magical healing included.

Mage 20th has a big list of various explosive devices.

It's dice of damage, and there is indeed a blast area. Lemme wrap up another table with that detail:

      Name Blast Radius* Damage Burn**
      Concussion Grenade 3 8B No
      Fragmentation Grenade 3 12L No
      Molotov Cocktail 2 8A Yes
      IED 3-5 8-15L or A**** Depends
      Suicide Bomb 4-6 10-15L or A**** Depends
      Gasoline 3 2A Yes
Gas Tank (car) 5 12A Yes
      Car Bomb 5 20L or A**** Depends
      Truck Bomb 10 30L or A**** Depends
      Blasting Powder 1 1L Yes
      Dynamite 3-5 6L / Stick Yes
      Nitroglycerin 4 3 No
      Plastique 1-6 1-20L No
      Napalm 10-50 Special*** Yes
      Small Rocket 3-6 10-15L No
      Artillery Shell 10 20-30L No
      Nuke 1-30 Miles Seriously? Yes

Where applicable (i.e. no units are specified), damage pool is per pound or half gallon of the substance.

      * - Blast Radius gets measured in 10 feet unless otherwise specified. -1 to dice successes for each yard outside the radius (where realistic)
** - Burn determines wether the explosive also can start fires
*** - Napalm Damage: The storyteller rolles 1 die to determine size of damage dicepool for each individual target. Then, this pool gets rolled each turn, for 10 turns. Water cannot extinquish it, only lack of oxygen. Each initial dodge success reduces the damage dicepool by 1. Napalm is nasty.
**** - Can be incediary (Aggravated + Fire) or shrapnel (Half armor protection)

Hello and thank you for your answers.

I like heinrich’s idea for a more narrative part of the story. For real combat parts I prefer to allow rolls, giving higher chances to survive to characters with appropriate skills or abilities (stamina; higher perception to realize they need cover; etc)

Ambrosia, are those supposed to be dices of damage or levels of damage? Does the book say how distance from the source affects the damage? Something like, 1 fewer damage for each meter/yard away from the explosion would make sense to me.

Would you make a roll for each character or one for the bomb?

Depends on the St and scene, I guess, but normally I'd say for each character. The randomness would somewhat account for different placements, things in between, etc.
Though, if there are are really a lot of characters about, and it's a combat scene you don't want to slow down too much, one roll for all would work - with individual soaks of course.
