  • They have confirmed it is still in active development as recently as a couple of months ago. So I don't think they have shelved it for later as of right now. They probably realize that shelving it and trying to bring it back later would be a hype killer that is hard to come back from even compared to switching developers mid-development.

Paradox Interactive CEO Fredrik Wester promised the indefinitely delayed Vampire: The Masquerade--Bloodlines 2 is still in active development.

Though according to the article they did consider killing it anyway.

Regrettably, it reminded me of all the times that pre-Revised typed out the term "Garou gene". (^VVVVV^)

We knew that, but whether they'll be antagonist only or not ( Sabbat/ Hunter Organisations in V5/H5) and whether they'll be detailed or just mentioned briefly and then otherwise ignored ( Ashirra/Hungry Dead/Revenants etc in V5) is as unknown as the writers and consultants.

            • So they just showed off what the new tribes look like patrons and what not

Several of the tribes have new patrons like black furies getting gorgon or glasswalkers getting spider

I am also assuming the name galestalkers is the old name for wendigo seeing as they have the north wind as the patron.

Also new tribe called the ghost council with the horned serpent which I am assuming it's Uktena

Edit: For whatever reason my post isn't showing for me so double post

              • The text that goes along with that graphic implies that W5 is not a continuation of Werewolf, but an interpretation based on the themes of the original game. An extrapolation if you will. Why this is was not explained. Only took a quick look at it on the WOD site, but others who have seen it are not too sure about the way the game seems to be going.

Well, at least it's clear now what to expect from W5. It says it right at the start:
(If you’re a player familiar with legacy editions of Werewolf, this is a heads up to expect some noteworthy changes in both system and setting. W5 isn’t a continuation of those earlier editions, it’s a re-imagining of Werewolf built on the core themes of the original game.)
                  (Emphasis added by me)

                  • Not to sound like a broken record, but Forsaken tribes too were tied to specific renown.

But, okay, if it truly is a re-imagening? And it STILL includes lupus? I'm a bit more accepting with it.

As for the new names to the American tribes? Pretty cool, given that this time they ASKED Native Americans about it.

One thing that I don't understand is the change of the GW totem. Yes, spider is an aspect of Weaver. But the whole point of cockroach has been that it never gives up and keeps on trucking. Spiders are typically more static and clever than adaptable.

Also, WTF are Fangs doing XD

EDIT: Though, I need to be honest, why are Talons still around? From my experience, they are the tribe people generally do not want around. And a lot of people play them only as RARR HUMAN HATER.

                    • Anyone paying attention though really already knew that once they looked at 5e. The umbrage people have had with it has often been that Paradox was not as forthright with it as they could have been from the beginning and seemed to want the best of both raking in the nostalgia angle and the new thing angle, combined and an unnecessary degree of hostility to the og fanbase that feels unproductive at best.

Not returning to the forums, just stopping in for a moment. CofD not getting books so we can get fed WoD5e is an insult.

                      • The thing I don't understand is saying that the choice of Tribe is an expectation of game play. That seems to be pretty limiting not only to what you can do, but also limits the makeup of a pack. If pack members are all hyper focused on different play styles it will be a headache for a storyteller and jarring for players with game play whiplash.

TBH, I think stating this upfront is more honest. People won't be as deflated as with H5, for example, where the expectation was still that there would be continuity of some kind, given the name.

Honestly fine with this as being open and honestly with the design and systems goals ... What I really mind is this passage:

Hey devs, slapping a coat of paint and calling it good really doesn't show that actually care about issues. Saying "Well it's not called the thing so it's good even though we are going to completely keep everything exactly the same." It's not just the name that people have a problem with.

Completely agree. Coming out and just stating that this is the design-goal of W5 is much better than what was done with H5.

In that regard, though, I think one should be cautious in interpreting what this article says. One thing about H5 is that the text often talks a big game about how certain elements are important and what they represent but the mechanics underneath it don't support the assertions in the text. For example, Creeds are introduced as being the ethos of the Hunter, a "way of life". Mechanically, your Hunter's Creed determines when Desperation-Dice can be used. That's it. Similarly, Drive is presented as this huge divide between Hunters in organizations and the street-level-cells the players play but the only time Drive is relevant is when a roll with Desperation-Dice fails. The book just assumes you use these barebones-mechanics and play H5 a certain way. So who knows how much of what is presented in that dev-diary even gets pushed by the mechanics.

The ban of Galestalkers sounds very dark, though and I'm surprised the Red Talons are still a player-option. And if it's a reimagining, I don't really understand why Stargazers and Get Of Fenris aren't player-options. Isn't the whole point of not making it a continuation that you don't have to deal with what WtA did in the past? So couldn't you just give them a different identity inspired by old WtA? Just really weird to stick to making a Get Of Fenris a fallen Tribe when the old lore gets ignored anyway.

                              • The Galestalkers' ban being dark is so much of a problem as going from "Western Depiction a Native American Spirit" to ... "Western Depiction a Native American Spirit." The Tribe and Totem not being called Wendigo isn't the heart of the issue.
