  • Ok....apparently we are going full Forsaken.

According to Achillis latest Twitter blurtings:-

    - Tribe is what you do. Auspice is how you do it. Looks very familiar to a certain Werewolf game....just not this one...
    - Apparently ' Breed is a Legacy concept'.......

So....huh? Looking at the implications of removing cultural signifiers and all cultural heritage and ignoring the fact that Tribes work throughout Revised and Twentieth mainly on an adoption basis...Ok....so we remove all the Celtic and Pre-Celtic cultural signifiers from the Fianna and leave them as 'the party tribe' because we've stripped out everything else that has been added to them to build them beyond the drink addled stereotype that Bill Bridges saddled them with.

Are they getting renamed as well? A new Totem? Theres not much left in this stripped back caricature that would resonate with Stag as a Patron....

I'll reserve my judgment until I've seen the end product.

To my surprise, I kind of like the approach of 5e being a mix of WoD and CoD... I'm still inspired by V5 and actually preparing a new chronicle for it at the moment, despite having been burned out with classical VtM before, so who knows.

If they want to take the culture-free route for Tribes, I wish that they would focus on the Tribe Totem, but maybe that's part of their approach.

Anyway, those who don't like the changes will still have W20.

Sadly, we've know that since that whole address on twitch. If you're really keen on it, you can see it here

Not entirely full Forsaken. This might just be me, but the fact that they kept lupus around is possibly the most positive things I've heard of W5. I was 99% convinced lupus would go along with the garou-born.

Even if it is VERY minor, this is making W5 differ from WtF just a liiitle bit.

You'd also have to affix an off-Akkadian reverse derivative language held in common with spirits and Garou, a karma meter that you'd have to keep in the center, emphasis on hunts over battling wars, and de-power Crinos while adding on a time limit and making it synonymous with frenzies (while also getting rid of fox frenzies). Hopefully they're just re-evaluating how lupus and other non-human born characters sit in the setting, such as by changing how starting stats get decided. W:tA also has other werebeasts that it supports, whereas there isn't much of a plan to re-do War Against the Pure for Forsaken 2e, last I heard.

Because fixing it would be hard.

It will be' a total rework like they did for the ravnos. Every tribe will have no cultural ties but the tribal concept will change totally in order to be cultural-free and even some names will change, no lore-evolution just a reset.
It will be "tabula rasa" like hunter, you can find it on Achilli's tweet about the work on tribes and auspice, talking with a guy.

                    -'' We are the unsullied.
                    We are the inheritors.
                    We are the Pure ''-

So according to this tweet, tribe is what you do and auspice is how you do it. Technically has been the rule, but once more how it is presented sounds very Forsaken.

It is interesting because it is not really wrong, different tribes do different things and most tribes have members who aren't part of their ancestral heritage. But once more, Forsaken sells itself on the tribes being what you hunt and auspice is how you hunt. Even the hunt part is a rather recent change since in 1st ed Forsaken it was just straight up Tribe is what you do.

Well, what you do should be a club or a union or an association, but not a tribe. It bothered me in Forsaken that they used the word, despite kinship not being part of the equation. If they revamp WtA accordingly, then the tribes should be mercy-killed and be renamed Camps, or something like that....

Okay. Easily skipped then. If I wanted to play Forsaken, I'd play Forsaken.

I could easily give it an Apocalypse spin with how it's not wholly detailed right now (as just about any game wouldn't at this stage). From the broadest sense, this is also what different changing breeds do with regard to their role in warfare - Garou are general infantry and some degree of intelligence, Bastet and Corax are intelligence specialists, Nagah are like Martin Sheen's character in Apocalypse Now*, Mokole are both Intelligence Analysis and Heavy Artillery, Rokea are basically the majority of the navy (with some occasional help from Mokole and Nagah), Gurahl are medics and squad support weapons specialists, the Nuwisha and Kitsune are covert ops specialists, and the Ratkin are guerilla fighters. If you take Ananasi to be a part of the Gaian Armed Forces instead of Aanasa's personal hit squads, they're pretty much fulfilling the role of deep cover intelligence.

Every Garou or Fera is basically a soldier and a spy in some capacity. The tribes just help to narrow down their preferred theater or field of operations. Bone Gnawers are generally more spy than soldier, whereas the Fenrir generally wanted to be warriors and just warriors, while Red Talons are likely to end up as shadowy fast strike spec ops (everyone is lupus, they would excel in hit and run tactics). tl;dr this could still feel like Apocalypse.

*Or Charlie Sheen's character in Hot Shots: Part Deux. I LOVED YOU IN WALL STREET!

This is all fine by me.
W20 (and all supplements) had all a werewolf fan could want. Taking everything the setting had, and bringing it forth. So if I wanted a simple revision I would go with that.

Now, I'm interested to see the news this edition brings. Especially cuz they are letting themselves take what was good from other games, editions and settings, not just from itself, and I think that is a very healthy way to develop the game. Besides, it is better to have the editions be different, not just updates, in that way you have different options for games. I'm waiting to see what W5 brings.

Strange... When coincidence seems too convenient, I prefer to call it fate.
