  • Roll20 for CofD - Tips & Tricks

    I needed to roll some dices by net with my players. Wanted to use NWoD Dice Roller, but it freezed for few minutes. In the meanwhile I setup the chronicles page on Roll20 - and hit the wall. It's... enormous - and I only need to roll some e-dices from time to time. So can someone show me how to make players to roll those few d10s? Best with those shiny 3D dices.

    You can get a wod character sheet with dice reroller built in theres two I think on there you you choose the nwod one that has a selection of splat templates.

    Alternatively you can use these codes: n= number of dice to roll.

    /r nd10>8! Or /r {nd10!}>8
    To show successes 8 and above and rerolls 10s

    9agains
    /r {nd10!>9}>8 or /r nd10>8!>9

    For 8 agains you should beable to just replace the 9 with 8.

    Rote action:
    /r {nd10ro 8
    You have to reroll your own 10s though.

    It also has macros you can use if you know how

      Don't use 3d dices: results shows only after they rolled. But if you insist: there inset "my setting" with styled gear as icon. Here two check boxes : "enable 3d dice" and "automatically roll 3d dice". Maybe (not checked) each player should enable this.
      In "my collection" inset you can create macros for quick roll (for NPC or other needs). Body of macros should be contain formula
      /r {10d10!}>8
      where you change only number of dices
      and for chance-dice
      /r {1d10!}>10f1
      For meaning that's only one player and GM can see roll you use key no "/r" but "/gr"
      In charsheet (journal inset) you can choose combinations of any two attributes or attributes and skill or attributes, skill and special pool just clicking on them. And there dice roller section - when you click on dice icon then windows with modifier popup and for roll you can just press "submit". It's bit laging - way quicker to use macroses.

      nWoD charsheet and CofD charsheet definitely use different attack mechanics.

        Yeah, figure out what kind of rolls do you want to automate and write up macros. I do that for our Legend of Five Rings games.
        EDIT
        You can create a macro that asks how many dice you want to roll; it's pretty simple.

          Yeah but I remember one of them I think wasn't called chronicles and it has nwod and chronicles options with defence plus other choices. The only thing I couldn't get to work was adding the weapon modifyer after the roll and not added to the roll in the sheets.

              There's a character sheet for CofD built by the Roll20 staff - I'd recommend you use that one (only has specific fields for vanilla / Requiem / Forsaken, but the vanilla has enough room for my group to use it for Beast).

              Also, one thing that might get lost - Handouts are a perfectly fine way to track Conditions.

                Is it too brash, brazen, and soulless of me to ask if somebody could make a character sheet with editable skills for use with historical campaigns?

                  Make Macros:

                  Eight Again Macro:
                  /em Eight Again: [[?{pool size|0}d10sd>8!>8]] for ?{Action}

                  Nine Again Macro:
                  /em Nine Again: [[?{pool size|0}d10sd>8!>9]] for ?{Action}

                  Ten Again/Normal Roll Macro:
                  /em Normal Roll: [[?{pool size|0}d10sd>8!]] for ?{Action}

                  Chance Die Macro:
                  /em Chance Roll: [[1d10sd>10]] for ?{Action}

                  You can pin these making them buttons, and each will prompt for number of dice you want to roll and what the roll is for.

                    Also, each token can have up to 3 customizable "resource bars". They are great for tracking resources like Mana, Blood and other things that are expressed in numbers and go up and down. Would be good for Wounds if they were, well, you know, numbers.
                    if you want quick and dirty way to track wounds on multiple creatures, just edit their names to include / X * in appropiate amounts to track who is wounded how much.

                        So, I've been running nWoD games using the Roll20 board for quite some time now and I'm pretty proud of my board set-up. I figured I'd share it for some inspiration. This is my board for a Vampire the Requiem game I'm running.

                        I use the bars to track blood, willpower and beats for each player. I use the little icons on each character portrait to track health with a corresponding symbol for each damage type. (It's not a perfect system, but it was the best visual way to track it that I found.) The conditions the characters have are listed beneath with a corresponding handout that has the description of all the conditions for reference. I use the macros that were already shared for rolling, and I've written up a ton of lil rule cheat sheets as handouts for quick reference.

                        And for Vampire here, I've added their touchstones underneath their pictures. I've been working on permutations of this basic set-up for the various lines.

                        Thankfully, the new Roll20 Character Sheets simplified a lot of this, but this system has been working for me really well for the past year.

                              So here is mine. I use cards for fuel, willpower and beats as you can see on the lower right side of the board. And handouts are a lifesaver when it comes to conditions. I also have few of the empty with permisions set for players to edit. That way I can tell them what this new condition is all about and then they write it up when I continue with the story.
