  • Contagion Chronicle Kickstarter

Starting in couple of hours! I've made a new thread so that if you are just joining the conversation for the Kickstarter, you don't need to wade through 40 odd pages to reach its start point. I am super stoked for this!

I am too. If anyone is on the fence, I exhort you to check out Matt Dawkins's actual plays of the game on YouTube; watching them converted me from "This sounds like an interesting idea" to "I definitely want to play this."

Could you summarise the parts you found interesting?
Not that I don't want to watch 1h30 video of the gentleman gamer's but getting some quick points would be nice too!

And we're already over 15% funded!

Oh, and from the introduction video (narrated by Matthew Dawkins) it sounds like "the Contagion is a corruption of Infrastructure" is one of many possible explanations. So it should be super easy to literally make it the Blacklight virus if you are a [Prototype] fan.

Not much actually Contagion-focused has happened yet, but what I really appreciate about the AP is that Dawkins manages to find a way to run a game that manages to accommodate the themes and needs of four different types of monster (the players are a Beast, a Promethean, a changeling, and a werewolf--this last one is especially interesting because the werewolf in question is in fact an Ivory Claw).

It may also be that I enjoy watching someone who is an expert Storyteller at work; I've been making mental notes on how to use these as lessons for improving my own games.

Backed! Can only skim through the preview right now, but it seems awesome

The first manuscript release is (of course) the introduction, and the “social splats”: the Sworn and the False. If the book outline is being followed in order, next week should give us Vectors and Plagues, Interstitial and Otherwise. Following that should be Storytelling, five chapters of Contagious fiction, and Outbreak Sites (a dozen settings worldwide).

I’m wondering at what point in the outline we’ll start getting the crossover rules (as in, how do existing elements of game A interact with game B). My guess is that it will start with the Storytelling chapter: Vectors and Plagues are about introducing new elements to the setting; and while they’ll facilitate crossover, I don’t anticipate them addressing existing crossover questions all that much. But I can see the Storytelling chapter doing a deep dive into various matters like what happens when a mage or Promethean enters the Hedge, or a vampire tries to feed from a Mummy or Demon. If I’m right about this, then Week 3 is when the bulk of the crossover issues will be addressed.

I actually don't expect much of this.

Hey i know other supernaturals outside of the major gameline ones can join these Orders, but i did wonder if an Alchemist or a Hobgoblin could join the Sworn. As i have only seen examples of them among the false, i think it is rather natural that a more ambigious/more benevolent hob could join the sworn if the begotten or vampires can do it.

I do. In many ways, this is the book's mandate; and while I don't expect them to address how every edge-case of A interacts with B, I do expect that the big issues will be addressed.

Hobs feel like they'd be a bit more of stretch, but I don't see why not. I expect Alchemists would be all over this shit.

I don't think its going entirely in order. James said in the comments we will get our first setting section by Friday.

I'm really excited to learn more about what sorts of weird shit the Contagion is up to. The chapter on the Sworn and the False do a good job of hinting at what's to come.
