That may just be an inevitable consequence of trying to create something that could handle any combination of game lines, up to and including all of them, and maybe it’ll look better after more content has been released, but right now I’m having trouble seeing it work well as e.g. “A Werewolf + Promethean game” rather than “A game with werewolves and prometheans in it.”

I’m not shocked, because we knew for a long time that this was how it would be, but it’s still disappointing. Maybe they’ll do a second book, with a different approach, if this one goes well, but as someone mentioned upthread, it may just be that I should stick to Dark Eras for content like that.

I would recommend giving the kickstarter a little more time to reveal more information, instead of making any judgement right now. We really don't know much yet.

Seems a bit early to make that call when what 'The Contagion' appears as has literally not been shared yet in any of its hard examples.

While it's clearly something you can use for different situations, they've repeatedly pointed out that there's going to be specific examples of it.

oh, and unless I'm mistaken, the fact the contagion could be multiple things allow things likes the geryo strain much easier to have in a Forsaken game without feeling like it needs a crossover (geryo are supposed to have something connected to the contagion right?)

That's fair. My post was not phrased as clearly as it could have been. What I mean is that we've gotten hints about how this book was going to play out, and so far what we have gotten is consistent with those hints. Some people are going to like that, and other people are not. I did not mean to imply that "what we all expected" was something negative. Rather, "what we all expected" was basic facts about the chronicle, which some people would like and other people would dislike.

If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong, and I'll own up to it, but we have gotten a sense of what the Contagion is, and it seems closer to an out-of-context threat that doesn't fit neatly into most of the game lines (it'll probably work really well for Mage and Demon, and it could potentially fit well into Deviant, based on what we know of that one so far). I'm not saying, "The Contagion Chronicle is crap and everyone involved in it should be fired." I personally don't think that it's going to be valuable for me (though I've ponied up the $5 for previews precisely because I'm giving Onyx Path a chance), but it obviously wasn't a "bad" decision for them to make because OP is a company that needs to make money and, judging by the campaign's success thus far, this is going to make them some money.

fair enough. sorry that I thought you intended we all had the same expectation.

well I do believe you when you say you are giving it a chance. one thing we do know is that the contagion and geryo have a connection that causes werewolves shifting abilities to go batshit. I think once we get settings and enemies we can see how the contagion could fit with the other chronicles

First part of Edinburg is up today, will have full chapter tomorrow.

Apparently, the prime Contagious for the Edinburg Blood-Plague is...an Arisen, actually. His name's Iufenamun, and he's converted the National Museum of Scotland into a Dionysan temple he hopes to make the heart of a new Irem. The end-state of his Contagion seems to be his revelers turning into a legion of ghosts bound to his will.

And I'm thinking goddammit why didn't we get the core Contagion rules first this would be really informative if we knew how it worked.

As it is, it's interesting that he became, well...Daeva-like when he became patient zero for the Edinburg strain.

It notes that while the mummy's arrival seemed to kick things off with the Contagion, 'The God-Machine’s response is a widespread antivirus, though it may do more harm than good.' Which is probably where it ties into blood.

On Edinburgh I'm somehow... dissatisfied. If whole Contagion is 'local mummy doing one weird thing' - I'm disappointed. I was hoping for something on much larger strokes on city than 'Night in Museum' ending with some ghosts. However, it's pointed that vampires are connected to it, so we only seen part of Edinburgh preview. Will see tomorrow.

Well, that and the other Contagion strain carried by lifesuckers including vampires.

Yeah gotta say it's not a great preview, purely because it lacks context rather than actually being bad material. I can't help but feel kinda confused about the whole nature of the "contagion" rather than intrigued but hopefully the full version will shed some light tomorrow and if not it'll hopefully make more sense as more of the core content for the book is revealed.

I'm getting the vague feeling I'm the only one whose main question is "Okay, let's see where this goes."

It's not just that Iufenamun's weird, it's that his presence seems warped towards a vampiric nature which mummies aren't quite inclined to crossing powersets with. What's more is that this is a pretty brazen display against the Law of Shadow, more brazen than even the White Jackal played at. Why the hell isn't this mummy afraid of what his peers will do?

There's something odd about all of this, something off kilter, and I wanna see where this goes, at least.
