2nd Edition Books

So I am interested in runnign cross chronicle games using Contagion Chronicles and was looking at the the books I might need.

I am seeing 2nd edition books and want to make sure everything is compatable when players come into the game.

My question has to do with these though
Demon: the Descent
Beast: the Primordial

These two titles were produced after Chronicles got its revamp so are all of these books compatible with CofD2nd? I assume that contageon Chronicles will be as well as Deviant: The Renegades but was curious about DtD and BtP?

Aslo it seems that the game doesn't really have a metaplot per se, except the dark eras historical stuff, so Should I only stick to books produced for 2nd or will it be confusing to use some earlier works as well.

Demon: the Descent, Beast: the Primordial, Deviant: the Renegades, and the Contagion Chronicle all run on the Revised Storytelling System common to the various Second Edition gamelines; they're just not called Second Editions because they started out in that ruleset.

Mechanical aspects of books produced before 2013 may require some tweaking to fit with 2e mechanics, and various small bits of the narrative content has changed or been clarified, but earlier books will still be at least somewhat useful for building your settings and understanding the games.

One note about Demon. Unlike the others it was created before the decision to fully include the core rules in each book was made, so it only includes the GMC update rules and thus requires a 1st Edition Core book to play (or any 2nd core book should work as well to cover the same rules).

*Demon is technically 2e compatible, with a caveat: it was released before the new CofD 2e rulebook came out, so still requires the old "World of Darkness" 1e rulebook, and isn't standalone like the rest of the 2e line. It does contain all the appropriate rule updates needed.

Dark Eras 1 varies per game line, since it was released before many of the 2e books came out. The Contagion Chronicle and Dark Eras 2 are, I believe, being done with the 2nd Edition rulesets in mind across the board.

Yup, both are entirely 2e.

Oh, and Matthew was saying on Discord that Mummy will hopefully be on Kickstarter by the end of the month.

Once Mummy and Hunter get their second editions everything will be running on the same system.

(which is not to say I don’t forsee Demon and Beast getting a tuneup down the line, but it won’t be the system-shift the other 2nd editions have been.)

It will work with CofD just fine. IIRC, Demon included a copy of the God-Machine Chronicle update, which brought the 1e corebook up to 2e in all but name. That has been supplanted by Chronicles core, but the mechanical engine is the same.

The God-Machine Chronicle Rules Appendix that is included in Demon: The Descent makes it mostly complete and fully playable. There's only a few rules that are missing, such as Teamworking, animals to base Cryptids on, meditation rolls, and falling damage.

• Teamwork rules are included in all other corebooks with the Revised Storytelling System (i.e. all the 2e games, Beast, and Deviant), so if you have any of those you got the Teamwork rules.
• Animals can be found here, for free and updated for the Revised Storytelling System.
• Meditation rolls are available in Chronicles of Darkness.
• Falling damage is available in Chronicles of Darkness, Geist: The Sin-Eaters 2e corebook, and the upcoming Deviant: The Renegades corebook.

So all in all I'd say that Demon is a 1.9e game, and ~95% complete on its own.
