  • Perfected metals and the God Machine

Mage introduces the idea of perfected metals (and other materials) and how they can be created by being transported repeatedly between realms. As this method of creation does not rely on a mage's magic i couldn't help but think of 'what if the god machine used these'. It even fits potentially with how logistical infrastructure focuses on processing materials into what is needed for other projects.

So, my question here is have you used such in your crossover games at all and if so how'd it impact the narrative? If you haven't used them how could you see their use unfolding?

As a note, I debated if this should go in the mage sub forum but this is overall a crossover question with the God machine as the focus.

Maybe the Demiurge does have means to Perfect organics, including full bodies, contrary to what mages know of organic materials. An angelic Lich…

While it's definitely possible for the G-M to do something like that, it'd be a rare occurrence since the costs involved (in time, energy, and possibly processing power) would be pretty high. In a story, I'd limit use of perfected materials to rare, specialised equipment that it can outfit its most trusted servants with, or as components in its more mystical and rad projects.
In an action oriented game, I can totally see the G-M crafting a body out of Perfected Materials for a hunter angel to Claim as the player's final opponent. Bonus points if the body is skeletal and the angel has an Austrian accent.

I definitely do agree that it would be exceptional not standard circumstances for perfected materials to be used by the machine.
Use in exceptionally mystical infrastructure is definitely an approach I can also see working. Be it a weapon given to an agent or a nessisary component in infrastructure, there has to be a reason a lesser material wasn't adequate.

I don't think elaborating too much on the frequency the God Machine would use them helps anything.

The main theme of the G-M is its inscrutability. Be it because its plans are so far spanning and intricate that they're beyond comprehension, or just because it is a fractured, broken and incoherent machine despite god-like proportions, the G-M's plots and infrastructure don't actually make sense in practical terms.

With that in mind it would use perfected materials sometimes, and the why is anyone's guess, as any aspect of an infrastructure may also be relevant for another infrastructure or part of a hidden goal, or just be something that only makes sense in its demented mind and yet it will go through great pains to get it in place.
