    What says the law?

    The Ichnam
Laws are laws. They are what they are - immutably mutable, a set of rules set to perpetuate the rule of those on top. They are a human thing... or are they? Did hairless monkeys who think they're so clever to have discovered fire and knives and waste disposal, do you really believe that law sprang directly from them, unpatterned on any deeper pattern?

The Ichnam know. They know. The law is defined in the furnace of their lungs and the lens of their mind's eyes.

They know. It knows. The law, you know. It knows.

    Proclamation of Pointless Laws
At any time, the Ichnam may reflexively spend one Willpower and declare a rule aloud - for the remainder of the scene, all other mortals present react as if the stated rule was a law. If, for example, the Ichnam declared public nudity mandated by the city, law-abiding citizens would strip down and treat clothed people as criminals. This... capability... does not function if the law is in direct conflict with an actual law; additionally, it doesn't force anyone to take action, they merely assume that the Ichnam's announcement was just some obscure law that they hadn't previously heard of.

    Legal Immunity
An Ichnam's actions are always considered to be outside the jurisdiction of any legal body that attempts to prosecute them. This protection is immediately apparent to any lawmaker or lawkeeper that sees them; this can cause Breaking Points if the juxtaposition between the Ichnam's actions and their apparent legality is too great. If it ever becomes relevant, any supernatural ability that manipulates, extrapolates, or otherwise uses the law is also entirely ineffectual with respect to the Ichnam - they're simply not an eligible target.

A starting Ichnam possesses Legal Immunity and the Proclamation of Pointless Laws. They also possess the Virtuous (Law-Abiding) merit.

I have decided, after some thought, that I don't really feel happy on these forums. I might decide to come back to post. Who knows - but right now, I'm gone.

So good bye, good luck, and have a nice day.

Okay, this is strangely interesting, though I'm still wrapping my head around how Legal Immunity works. That said, this guy could probably be a nightmare to a Chatelaine Changeling, Werewolves (especially Elodoth), Carthian Vampires, and Mages.

      It's like this:

They can murder a man in front of a cop. The cop cannot legally arrest them. It won't stop the cop from suffering a Breaking Point due to seeing a murder, or prevent them from intervening... it's just that the man's death is not, legally, a murder. If the Ichnam is brought in front of court, hands still dripping blood and freely admitting what they did, they'll get off scot free.

Because in the eyes of the law, they did nothing wrong.

      ---

If it's bizarre... I literally wrote this in 10-15 minutes through free association. The name means nothing.

What is the etymology of "Ichnam"? Is it a Germanic calque for "I name"?

I wanted to write something - that's the first set of phonemes that came to mind.

          Though that is oddly appropriate.

          ----

To clarify - in my head, the ch is a hard c, and the a is long. So it'd be pronounced something like Icnäm, if I remember my German vowels correctly.

just a question- what interaction does they powers have with supernaturally enforced laws- like, say, the Old Laws of the Underworld?

They're still immune. Utterly, completely, inviolately. The last sentence in Legal Immunity should cover that.

I'm imagining an Ichnam simply walking into an Arcadian Realm, eating the goblin fruit, stealing Tokens, pissing on the furniture, spitting on the True Fae's face, hitting their nethers with a cold iron hammer and telling it to grow the fuck up.

My God, if the Ichnam could somehow film all of this, they could sell the videos to changelings and other victims of the True Fae for a fortune.

EDIT: Or they could just rob a bank. But that wouldn't be as cool. It seems the only ones that can stand up to an Ichnam are those who don't give a damn about the law in the first place.

By the way, I also imagined an Ichnam in a Phoenix Wright game. That would be a tough case indeed.

I shudder to think what would happen if one of these should place a Mummy under its sway.

Remember, you still could beat them up for being an asshole. Or call the mob on 'em.

                    But yes.
