  • Custom Lair Traits

Post your homebrewed Lair Traits here.

    Isolated (Minor Lair Trait)

Whether a thousand miles from civilization or trapped in an abandoned building with crappy cell reception, it is impossible to contact help. As long as this Lair Trait is in effect, no mundane means of communicating or perceiving what is actually going on inside or outside the area will work. Supernatural means of perception and communication provoke a Clash of Wills roll.

How about a Mutation Major Trait? It could give a number of stationary devices equal to Lair that can transform people according to the mechanics of the "Divine Clay" and "Shifting" Dread Powers of the Idigam. The devices can take many forms: an operating table with mechanical limbs covered in surgical tools, witch cauldrons filled with thick bubbling liquids and half-dissolved animal parts or a bed of maggots that wrap you in a cocoon. I'm not sure of how long these mutations would last outside of the Lair, or if this is better as an Atavism. I personally prefer it as a Lair Trait. It's a horrific reminder that being devoured is not the worst that can happen if you're kidnapped by a monster.

To make it more versatile, it could also give positive modifications, such as Striking Looks and Hardy, but only if the Beast allows it. This might work better as a "wishing well" sort of Lair Trait, though.

Question: can people actually LIVE in Lairs? Like, welcomed guests, can you treat them like staff if you allow them inside via Primordial Gateway, etc? If possible, that might be something worth developing.

You could, so long as you can either have Horror not hunt you or be able to fight it off. Food and water might be an issue.

Wouldn't it be possible to feed off the terrain? Granted, it's dreamstuff, but given the supernatural nature of said-stuff, you could get away with it, right?

You could. It's still difficult to find food on the side of a volcano with ash choking the air.

Maybe it's like the realms of Arcadia and their "Law of Hospitality". Either that, or because the Beast welcomes the target, his/her lair subtly changes to accomodate--eg, the guest'll find a rare piece of vegetation by what feels like sheer luck.

You could always keep a crate of non-perishable foods in your Lair.

                  That's cool!

Necromancing this thread since I thought having a homebrew Lair Trait thread would be nice.

The Wondrous Lair Trait is extremely sweet imo!

I'd like to make a Time Distortion Lair Trait, where Time flows differently in the Lair, effectively making everything go in fast-forward or in slow-motion. Both have their benefits, so the Beast would have to chose when taking the trait. Any ideas on how to represent that mechanically? +x to speed, but -x to Wit-based dicerolls?

Also, an Anti-Gravity one, which would heavily affect, among other things, accuracy of ranged weapons and movement.

                  Other possibilities:

Irradiated - The Lair is heavily irradiated. Major Trait. Extreme Environment 2-4.

Explosions - Be they artillery shells, fireballs or explosive little common dragons, the Beast's Lair is a source of constant explosions. Major Trait. Deals 2L physical damage every other round, and inflicts the Knockdown tilt.
