Help with the Typhons

Hi, I've been working on this Family on and off for a while now and I seem to have hit something of a roadblock. Here's a link to the document.

Anyway, if anyone could help me out with some more Lives and Stories, I would be eternally grateful. If tire's anything that needs clarifying, just send me a PM or post it here. Thanks to anyone who took some time to read this and (hopefully) help out.

She has always been popular. In high school, she quickly rose to the top of any clique that she deigned to join. In college, she joined as many clubs and societies as her schedule would allow. Her kindly behavior and generous nature cause people to flock to her. She is inevitably the heart of any group, and acts as the glue that binds them together. That is exactly what she wants. Once she understands the motivations and insecurities of a group, she can begin to pick it apart. She starts off subtly. She'll make an offhand comment that alienates one member of the group, or give a gift to one that would be desirable by all. By the time that she is done, the rumor mill and cycle of betrayals has ripped apart the fabric of the group, nobody is speaking to each other anymore, and lifelong friendships have been shattered. She doesn't look at it as destroying anything, though. She just wants to expand their horizons, so that they can experience the joys of new friendships.

He wants her heart. Not physically, of course. He wants to find the gift that is so perfect that she will instantly fall in love with him. He knows that money can't buy happiness, though, and that no simple item from the store would do the trick. Instead, he has learned everything he can about her, and seeks out unique treasures to bring to his beloved. He started simple. When he learned that she had an affinity for orchids, he brought her a bouquet of endangered orchids with the fragrance of a corpse harvested from the greenhouse at the local botanic gardens. When he saw someone cut her off in traffic, he gave her a box filled with the broken shards of the rude driver's windshield. He brought her a heart shaped locket, the original owner's photographs replaced with photos of her sleeping peacefully. He even delivered the necklace that her mother had been wearing when she was buried. Each gift is lovingly wrapped with a note professing his passion, each signed "Your Secret Admirer." He is not happy, though. None of these gifts seem to be having the desired effect. Instead of the delightful euphoria of new love, she seems to be experiencing constant distress. To make matters worse, the police just took away all of her previous gifts. Now, he is trying to figure out how to top those presents. Perhaps the teeth of the charming coworker that had been promoted over her would make her smile.

Terrifyingly creepy, but I'm not sure quite how it fits into the Family. I just don't quite get how it relates to a fear of chaos, change or betrayal.

I had been thinking that the randomness of the gift selection and the fear of what might come next might fit for chaos, but if not, that's fine. Maybe I can tweak the description a bit to make it fit for the Epicures when I get to them. If I think of something else that fits for the Typhons better, I'll post it up.

Thanks. Yeah, the idea of the typhons is that they're the fear that what you believe in and count on today might not be there tomorrow. They're the fear that your stable little world isn't so stable at all, that your friends aren't what they seem to be. They are the fear that the order you've lived with, things which you believe unquestioningly, are false. Ultimately, typhons are the fear of betrayal, either by the world or by others.

Thinking about it, they could be a predator or a nemesis as well.

I've added some stuff on the Typhons' relation to the different Hungers, namely Ruin and Power. I'm not quite sure how to handle the others. I'm thinking that Nemeses could punish those who become too sure of themselves and the world, or something, but I'm not sure about the rest.

Collectors would probably select things of great sentimental or material value rather than a specific class of item, especially things that are contested between multiple people. They'd probably enjoy the ensuing chaos as accusations of theft begin to fly.

Predators would probably target people in areas that they felt safe or secure, hunting people in their own homes or in well-lit, populated areas.

Nemeses might target those that try to impose too much order on the world, especially authority figures that try to quash individuals.

Those are just my thoughts.

Reminds me of Eris' apple of discord which started the Trojan War. A good place to be, what with the whole mythology thing.

That sounds good, as well as the Predators having a penchant for making the prey believe that they are safe before springing the reality of their situation on them. Like cats playing with mice.

Hm, as well as targeting those who believe that they are safe from the consequences of their crimes.

In general, I think that a Typhon on the hunt could be quite disturbing, both literally and metaphorically, as we as humans cling to the structures and order we impose on the world and they, by their nature, bring that order down. They are, quite literally, anarchists by nature.

A rebel without a cause. That's the only way he can think to describe himself. His personality and ideals change on a complete whim. One moment, he could be a complete misogynist and the next he could be an advocate for women's rights. He can associate with minorities one day and join the KKK the day after. Envying the one percent while at the same time despising the 99% for trying to rise above their station. Whatever social group he is confronted with, he is always on the opposing side, a rebel without a cause, he fights against the masses without even knowing why. Some heroes might say that makes him weak, because he doesn't have anything to protect. What many of them fail to realize is that if he has nothing to protect, he also has nothing to lose.
