Unless I am mistaken the fetch always has an identical Wyrd rating to their changeling, so what happens when the changeling turns True Fae?

When? If it can happen (which is up to the ST) it would be so rare and momentous you'd work out such detail on a case-by-case basis.

It has to be on a case-by-case basis because there are no rules for it to happen. There is no known surefire way of going about it. The one line I've seen about changelings becoming True Fae in 2e is in Oak, Ash, & Thorn, and that's in a sidebar that says that certain eldritch titles may allow something like that to happen (aka, it's up to the ST/group to decide), with no hard rules for what sets such Entitlements apart from regular ones. It may very well be impossible, meaning it's purely in-setting speculations and rumours.

If it does happen, well I don’t know. There is nothing that says Fetches benefit from the extended lifespan that changelings gain from their Wyrd, so in all likelihood the Fetch will die of old age long before their changeling half gains the Wyrd level and loses the Clarity in order to transcend into the Fae state. The Fetch is meant to serve as a replacement for the human who was snatched after all, and humans are meant to grow old and eventually die.
BUT, assuming they can and do persist as long as their changeling half does.. well If I was going to rule that the Fetch would achieve a similar apotheosis; I’d say that it becomes an Actor for the nascent Fae, or possibly their Nemesis: sharing the same Name, but as always serving as the foil and rival vying for the same life and privileges... just like the two did when they were merely playthings.

If you want a deeper foil past superficialities and technicalities then you need something that isn't Gentry, like a changeling or any other thing.

Surely a True Fae would be so well versed in the magic of the True Fae that he can just disband or re-absorb the Fetch? The Fetch only has its powers by link to the Changeling after all, so once that Changeling becomes True Fae, it has a direct link to work its power directly on the Fetch, one would think. While a Fetch does get stronger as the Changeling gets stronger, it's not like they get the "full package" so to speak, so...
Of course, since such an event is likely to be the defining moment of a campaign, whatever works for your story, works!Last edited by Unahim; 07-15-2020, 05:26 AM.

God knows the changeling's not using that name anymore.
