  • Randomly generate Awakened characters

    I don't know who needed this, but I wrote a guide full of dozens of tables that you can use to roll a random Mage (2nd edition rules).



    A good use for this document is creating diverse characters quickly for a one-shot adventure. Sometimes I have a an idea of a Mystery that I want to use for a quick game, but making new characters every time can be a chore.

    Excellent. I love that you weighted the Orders differently.

    Only criticism I have is that the explanation for Attributes is a little unclear. Took me a few reads to work it out, though that may just be me.

      Thanks for the feedback, I made a little tweak to it and added an example.

      I am also open to ideas if people want to randomize additional stuff for a mage character.

        One other thing, I'm not sure what the '>' mean in the merit section. Is that just what you get for rolling the same number a few times?

          Correct, if you roll into it again you get whats after the >

          I had the explanation elsewhere, but should put it closer to that table, thanks for the feedback again.

            The issue was more that the explanation immediately below says you combine the dots of rolled merits with merits you already have. Which I just realised probably means merits you got before that stage, not the ones you're rolling for.

              I got partway through implementing this as a javascript tool for making random Mages before I got bored. Might finish it up later tonight and post it for people to use if you're cool with that (with credit to you, of course)?

                  Here we go! I didn't implement absolutely everything, and tweaked a few of the tables to make things a tad bit simpler. Also threw in a random name generator based on markov chains that I wrote for another game.

                  Apologies to anyone looking at the source. This is the laziest code I've written in a long time. ^^;;

                    Ooh I love it. Meet Katrin Fultewer, Silver Ladder Acanthus trained in world-class heists. And she has an Infamous Mentor too! Clearly they need help from the PCs on their next job...

                    Hmm, I wonder how Dream and 5 dots in Astral Adept fits? Technically impossible (3 dots max AA I believe), and a bad match for Wits 1 Composure 1 Mind 0, but there must be a good story/custom Merit in there.
