A question about sympathetic casting, when casting sympathetically it states that a mage needs a yantra thats sympathetic to the target, what does that mean in game termes,

say i wanted tocast a spell on a docter, would a hospital doctor coat be a link, maybe a weak one but still.

    2nd question

would someone explain how nimbus flair work , like im 5. ‘

    thanks for your time

For the Sympathy casting. It something specific about the target. The closer...the more personal...the greater the link. For example, for a Dr, Alan coat could work. But a lab coat with his name on it is better. While a lock of his hair would be the best. I don't have my core book with me to give you the exact rules, sorry.

As for the Nimbus, that's what I am working out myself. U started a thread hoping to get several examples of Nimbus. But so far, nothing.

A coat from the same hospital, one where the doctor would have worked in a lot, would have a Weak sympathy. If it was the specific doctor's coat, it would be Medium sympathy. If it had a deep, emotional tie to the doctor (like if it was inherited from a highly respected mentor), then it would be Strong sympathy.

For the Nimbus tilt, I believe this can be of aid:

      Hope that helps

I hate to say it but you're all wrong about Sympathetic casting. Sympathetic Range needs two things:
1.) It needs the caster to have a Sympathetic Connection to the subject. (This is often gained through casting Borrow Threads on an object that has a Sympathetic Connection to the intended subject.)
2.) It needs a Sympathetic Yantra, which is a specific type of Yantra category described in the book on page 122. In short, it needs to be something which directly symbolises the subject. Either a depiction of some kind, or a physical part of their body.

When it comes to Sympathetic Range it doesn't matter how personal it is. A better Sympathetic Yantra would normally grant a higher dice bonus, but you don't get the dice bonus if you use it to cast at Sympathetic Range.

Reduce the strength of the Sympathetic Connection for all examples by one step. Replaceable belongings (the personal coat) has a Weak Sympathy, and belongings with emotional significance (the inherited coat) has a Medium Sympathy. A random coat from the same hospital has no Sympathetic Connection to that doctor; especially not if he never uses it because he has a personal coat.

Glad to be corrected. I'm not that experienced with MtAw, and haven't studied Sympathic Magic in depth, mostly coz the group I play with hasn't actually tried to use any Sympathic Magic yet. There's so many options in game that a player can do that I am still in the process of absorbing all of it lol.
