  • My guess is that making Arcane Alloys (as Thaumium) will be one of the Matter Attainments, same as Alchemy. Perfecting metals is just a matter (ha!) of the material going in and out of twilight a dozen times (or less in case of meteoric iron that is already half-perfected).

I would disagree. Considering they are considered techniques that you have to learn and most of which are lost. Though it would be nice to see them expanded on like I hope they would have been in Imperial Mysteries.

      • Are the Time Fae still going to be called Anachronisms? I know the explanation is that a being summoned from Arcadia using the Arcana of Time is taken from its appropriate place-time and brought into a realm in which it does not belong. Wouldn't that apply to all the summoned supernal beings though? Really, Anachronisms seem like more of an Abyssal concept than a Supernal one really. It's something that should not belong or is impossible in the time it's in.

On a similar note, the term "imps" for Demons of Space doesn't fit either IMO. It calls to mind small, mischievous creatures. A Demon of Space doesn't have to adhere to that in the slightest.

        • An embodiment of Time or Space is going to be a bit more gateway-like than the more substantial other three Gross Arcana. An Anachronism won't be the particular anachronistic thing so much as the transformation in the shape of Time which allows the present to connect to out-of-place times, which in turn need to be represented by the image of an anachronistic-looking thing. Just like any Supernal symbol is an incomprehensible abstraction, manifesting an visible image for an Arcanum that's more about context than objects will have an entire extra level of the image not being the thing itself. The Supernal has to manifest as a particular distortion of Time that isn't the entirety of the symbol, but that manifest distortion, even in its dumbed-down state, still needs to point at yet another limited image to outline its empty shape.

For Imps, I'd take some inspiration from the Threnodist Legacy's writeup.

In the last game I played in, we used "Fiend" and "Devil" for Demons of Space and Mind, respectively. Less cheesy than "Imp", and actually topical compared to "Wraith".

            • What about Sixth Watchtower in Mage Chronicler's Guide? Is it going to be put in FWC with more details or will it be remain forgotten forever? I was always fascinated by this mysterious Watchtower.

You missed my point. The exact formulae of each alloy (like Thaumium requiring lunargent, oricalcum and hermium) may not be innately known, but the act itself of creating the alloy would not be a spell, just something you are capable of due to having a certain understaining of an Arcanum (ie. an Attainment). I also hope we get more info on both perfected metals and arcane alloys in FWC, but wordcount is wordcount...

                • No room for them, alas. Despite some interest, they're a pretty fringe topic anyway.

I do know what the "missing" ones are, though, and as soon as we have a reason to put them in a book they'll go into one.

                  • Maybe in a sourcebook about magical items, artifacts and so. I think I remeber someone being interested in pitching one, Malcom perhaps?

                    • That was me, not Malcolm - I wanted to follow Imperial Mysteries with "Forged By (Atlantean) Dragon's Fire" (working title, which the cMage revised fans will get,) but I was persuaded "Tome of the Left-Handed" was more important to the gameline, as most of our antagonist factions still hadn't been detailed beyond the core.

Basically, I have three books I continually try to get on the schedule - the Imbued Item / Artifact book, the Tome of the Pentacle (historical play! Convocations! The Orders when they're working together! How it's different away from Europe and the US! Wizards Wars!), and a book about playing Sleepers, Sleepwalkers, and Proximi in Awakening's world.

I propose other things, too, and Fallen World by the mere structure of a Chronicle Book has managed to include some of what I'd put in them (we've got our Sleeper and Sleepwalker chapter - it'd get massivly expanded on in a full book, but the Chronicle's a good start). Dark Era's Mage chapter is one of the historical flashpoints I had sketched for TotP.

Honestly, I'm sitting on about five year's worth of releases in terms of basic pitches. Which we do in a given year depends on what other lines are doing, what Mage needs, and considerations about the flow of a gameline from book to book - Left Hand Path picks up a lot of batons from Imperial Mysteries and other things trialled in it - the way the Orders are depicted, especially - have been picked up by the Chronicle.

Next year's schedule will be released at GenCon in three weeks. We can return to this conversation when I'm not prohibited from telling you what the next Mage book is.

                      • You're mentioned Archmage one too many times for me not to say this...

I'd love love love to see a small section of the Fallen World Chronicles talk more about Archmages. I'm a big fan of Imperial Mysteries, and I'll be the first to say that book is well-designed and quite comprehensive. However, I feel like there is so much to Archmage, so many possibilities, and even the fine IM didn't cover it all.

If there's a flaw to Archmage, it's that they are difficult to play well. Okay, maybe flaw is the wrong word. But it would be nice to have some official help getting started, like more story hooks or something (kinda like the story guides for vampire etc). It can be quite intimidating/overwhelming to fire up such a high-caliber game.

I'd also really appreciate some more ideas of Imperial spells and more explanation of the 9th degree of Archmastery. These are all pipe dreams, mind you. Or maybe someone could make a Q&A thread about this stuff if it's too difficult to write about in a book?

Definitely interested in all these ideas. For that last one, I wonder if it might be an opportunity to revise and add more thaumaturgical paths, especially now that thaumaturges are going to be a part of the Orders.

                          • My ST would like to know more about the value of tass, rotes and imbued items in the mage economy. Like, how much tass should be received for a favor? At what point should it be a rote or an imbued item instead? Basically, what's the exchange rates generally and when and how do they come up?

Those breaking points only affect Sleepers. Proximi, Sleepwalkers, and other beings with personal supernatural power are exempt. For more details, see the blogpost on the Lie.

                              • Umm… no. Dave clarified that being a Sleepwalker doesn’t grant immunity to the “witnessing supernatural phenomena” Breaking Points described in GMC. I think it should; but I’ve already had my say on the subject.
