  • Oh geez, is that what that means? That's it's on track to be released next summer?

    • The tentative schedule is Q1 2015

      • Ah Well worth the wait, but that schedule page on the main site had my hopes up - dispite the disclaimer.

        • All the books I want to read should have been released yesterday, but I am being patient here ...

          • This is something that's probably been asked before - heck, I may have even asked it myself - but I'd like to see more stuff to do with the nimbus. It'd be neat to have that be less forgettable.

            • Well, you're in luck, because if I remember correctly (so maybe NOT in luck) the Nimbus is a pretty active thing. It can lash out and so forth, I'm pretty sure. Or it has some similar effect.

Maybe you don't take my word for it.

              • Nimbus will be an upcoming blog - it has a long-term effect of tainting things associated with you with the Supernal, a signiature effect for recognizing other mages by their spells, and an immediate effect where you uncloak it to impress upon the hobbits that you're no conjurer of cheap tricks, which is Mage's "aura" mechanic; mages flare their nimbuses in response to vampires trying to impose their Beasts and so on.

It's different to Vampire and Werewolf's aura systems, as it doesn't invokve Conditions. The nimbus isn't a finely-targeted thing that goes onto one victim. It creates a Tilt.

                • Aw, heck yeah!

(Here's hoping for some merits & spells what can pump 'em up, too.)

That makes me very happy since originally it sounded like mages wouldn't be able to do that, when it was first mentioned. Either way now I'm excited for whenever that blog post comes.

This is the new boost to Shadow names, yes? Colour me quite curious. The idea that wizards do not get a peaceful life appeals to me.

I'm hoping this doesn't cost Mana anymore, at least to use on mortals? Impressing one's supernatural nature is both fun and an innate part of Hubris. How can you call yourself a Mage if you don't go "Neener neener neener!" at the less powerful now and then?

Is there any particular reason for this? More limited effect/duration of the nimbus?

If I ever have a game of mortals encountering a Mage, it feels like this would earn a Spooked condition.

                      • Tilts can lead to resulting Conditions. A slippery fighting arena, for example, can lead to Wracked if the person fails to maintain balance. Temperature extreme: Heat can lead to Exhausted... you get the idea. I suspect something akin for a mage's Nimbus.

                        • Main thing is that Tilts are measured in combat time, and vanish when they're over. They also affect *everyone* in the scene. Which fits a Nimbus' "quick glimpse of something powerful that stops you in your tracks" better than laying a Condition on a single target like Vampire's Predatory Aura does.

                          • I was just thinking about Reach and how it really needs more ways to be spent in order to increase the temptation of overspending it and risking Paradox. I wonder if spending 2 Reach to tack on a yantra above your Gnosis limit would be appropriate.

Area over longevity, hm? Feels appropriate for something that is essentially the magical equivalent of whipping open your trench coat. I imagine I'd apply Spooked or some similar Condition to a mortal with a curious bent, but its actual mechanics does seem better suited to that. Works for me!
