  • [Homebrew 2e] Coil of the Primal Blood

With some help from you guys, I finished the Coil of Primal Blood. I'm creating this topic just for organization.

Here is the link to the Coil:

    And here is the transcript:

    Coil of the Primal Blood

In blood there is power; this is the creed of the Mystery of the Voivode. While some seek to rise above the petty politics and slaveries of the Damned, others study the inherent power in the blood. This Coil is a ramification of Mystery of the Voivode. His practitioners create and experiment on revenants, poke and prod at new Embraces whose clan Banes haven't set in yet, vivisect members of unusual bloodlines, mess with ghoul and gargoyle anatomy and investigate how vampires react to different supernatural stimuli. The Scales of this Mystery focus on the power of blood.

    Coil of the Primal Blood

    Distant Cousin (•)
To understand how the different powers of the blood work, first a Dragon needs to connect better with other Kindred. Attempts to detect blood sympathy (p. 99) no longer cost a point of Willpower and add this Coil rating as bonus die on the roll.

    Into the Fold (Variation) (••)
A Dragon will not be held down by the blood of this Sire.
She develops blood sympathy (p. 98) towards all Kindred she has tasted the blood, treating her as four times removed.
Her blood also changes so that uses of Auspex, A Taste of Blood (p. 91) or similar methods cannot discern her clan clearly, inducing a Clash of Wills using her dots on this Coil + Blood Potency against Auspex and other supernatural powers, or simply returning a failure in cases of a taste of blood.

    A Taste of Familiarity (•••)
The Dragon's understanding of the blood is above all others and it's binding properties no longer trouble her. If the Dragon has developed Vitae addiction, she loses it, this does not prevent her from getting addicted again, but now, the first dose of Vitae consumed from another Kindred every night does not count for purposes of Vitae Addiction and Blood Bonds. Additionally, she adds half her Coil of the Primal Blood rounded up as a bonus to rolls to resist blood bonds.

    Blood Brother (••••)
The Dragon does not have to limitate herself to the restrictions of their blood. She wants more power, so her blood obeys. The Defiant can purchase merits exclusives to other clans, ignoring the clan pre-requisite. The Dragon still needs to find and study those merits or have tasted the Vitae of someone that has those merits, similar to developing an out-of-clan discipline.

    The Blood Unchained (•••••)
By this point the Dragon already tasted dozens of different bloods and unlocked the potential to go beyond. She can now learn bloodline Disciplines, Devotions and merits, ignoring the prerequisites of joining the Bloodline, needing only a taste of the rare bloodline vitae to do so. Bloodline gifts normally gained without a cost can be bought for two experiences.

Sample Scales of the Primal Blood

    Blood Analysis
    Prerequisite Coil: Into the Fold
Procedure: The Dragon uses a special fractionation process to study a sample of blood which, after the process, is submitted to arcane reagents and left to mature over the course of a couple hours.
Outcome: If the blood used is that from a mortal, the Dragon knows if the mortal is a Ghoul or if he has another supernatural mutation on his blood, possibly originating from another supernatural template or merit, unless familiar with the phenomenon in question, the Dragon does not know which merit or template. If used on a dose of Kindred blood, this procedure reveals detailed information about Clan, Blood Potency and the presence of mutations on the blood, signaling a Bloodline. Strange and unusual clans still provide information like Blood Potency and the presence of a bloodline, but unless already documented, the dragon does not know from which clan the target is. When targeting Vitae from a Dragon that has the Into the Fold (variation) coil, the test returns that he is from all the clans he has tasted the Vitae.

    Blood Cleansing Ritual
Prerequisite Coil: A Taste of Familiarity
As per the original Blood Cleansing Ritual (VtR2 p. 158) with a different level prerequisite. Due to the need to taste many different Vitae, this Scale is common among practitioners of the Coil of the Primal Blood.

    Return to the Primordial
    Prerequisite Coil: The Blood Unchained
Procedure: Using a dialysis machine, the Defiant extracts his blood and filters it with special arcane formulas. This induces a special type of torpor to the Kindred. The blood, now thinned by the procedure, is then reinserted into the Dragon by needles into properly located veins, reinvigorates him after a day of slumber, this process is made possible to do alone by machine automation, but if such resources are not possible, the subject will need someone to reinsert the special blood into his veins when the procedure is done, or the substance will be wasted after a couple minutes. Roll Intelligence + Occultism with a penalty equal to Blood Potency.
Dramatic Failure: Something went terribly wrong, regardless of Blood Potency, the Kindred awakes the next night as a revenant.
Failure: Because of some error on the procedure, the formula could not cleanse the bloodline from the subject and he will slumber as per normal torpor rules.
    Success: The normal Outcome occurs.
Exceptional Success: As the normal Outcome, but the Kindred awakes at the end of the procedure.
Outcome: At next sunset, the Dragon awakes, having lost his old bloodline, along with a dot of Blood Potency, becoming a normal Kindred from his original clan again, or a revenant, if his Blood Potency is reduced to zero. It is said that strange things happen to those rare twice-cursed who attempt this Scale, but such information is not well documented.

I would either make the results of Return to the Primordial temporary or add some onerous cost or risk to the procedure, likely something strange that requires some adventure to procure. Remember that while players make the decision whether their characters manifest bloodlines, their characters do not always exercise a choice in the matter. Some bloodlines are hereditary curses for which a reliable, reproducible, permanent cure would be instantly sought out. Think of all the Morbus who would love to be able to drink blood from people who aren't diseased (and thus not be undesirables in the All Night Society for the danger they pose to the healthy blood supply).

Better phrasing: "Bloodline gifts normally gained without a cost can be bought for two experiences." Some bloodline gifts aren't Merits, Devotions, or anything else, like the Agah of the Neglatu or the Hound of Hell bonus of the Kerberos.

Oh cool you actually came up with a Scale, there not being any clear places to go with those that I could think of was the one remaining issue I had with this Mystery.

I'll write some more 2 or 3 scales. I was planning on making a scale similar to Spoiling, allowing the Dragon to store a single use of a Discipline and another scale that let him analyze, with precision, informations like Clan, Bloodline, Blood Potency, from a dose of Vitae, similar to the VtM Tremere.

I appreciate the input, I tried to change some things but didn't come with anything really good. I expect some table variation, but as a Homebrew, the STs that will find this too powerful will nerf it already. I think that, you already need mastery of the Coil(lvl 5), you also need to perform a dangerous procedure that strips a dot of Blood Potency (5exp) and has a chance of sending you into torpor, which, depending on your humanity(that should be as high as 5 if you are a master Dragon), blood potency(which should be at least 2 if you don't want to become a revenant) and the chronicle, could mean a lost character if you are going to sleep for the next 2~6 years. It also has the chance of transforming you into a Revenant. This surely will remove a undesirable Bloodline weakness, but you'll lose much more on the process.
