It actually does make a tremendous amount of sense. If one of the resonances Father Wolf fed from was Hunting, and it probably was, he would logically be weakened by finding less of it due to the development of human cultures into sedentism and establishing of agriculture-reliant settlements.

And with the some of the foes he hunted at the time... he needed that essence to keep up.

Don't forget that agriculture means unprecedented numbers of humans pouring their emotional resonance into single locations for extended periods of time. Spirits that Urfarah hasn't normally had trouble with are now being given a chance to spawn and grow.

Birth of agriculture as the sundering is looking better with each passing comment. Not only that, but it also adds to the Sumerian language being linguistically similar to the first tongue. I often wondered how the two languages were similar.

Well there would still be steps between, of course. Father Wolf weakens as humanity turns from some of the greatest hunters to farmers.

In a way, it even fits with the Firstborn. Sagrim-Ur always wanted to know what would happen if everything changed drastically, and in at least one of his origin stories acted to take 'special care to look after them.' Death Wolf, another survivor, spoke of death saying, 'One only need not be afraid of changing.' But Father Wolf has been presented as a static, though multifaceted being.

And Huzuruth-Ur, who hates the Forsaken for taking Pangaea away, making his tribe dishonor the works of man and focusing them on the sacred prey of those who dishonor the hunt. With his hateful and vengeful attitude it seems to fit with humanity and not-hunting having a fault in the collapse of Pangaea.

Getting a little out there here, but considering the importance of the hunt in the development of humanity and your thoughts on certain theories, perhaps the reason there's no humanity spirits is because long ago, the First Pack killed him. If the name of things like Father's Form is accurate and Urfarah wasn't confined to the form of a wolf but could shift like the Uratha, perhaps Luna wouldn't have needed to turn into a human in order to help create werewolves.

One of the most interesting things that we'll be exploring in this chapter, for me, is the nature of the Border Marches, and how that affects the lives of Awakened and Uratha alike.

It will certainly be very interesting. I've always been curious why people who weren't sorcerers or spiritualists would try to visit the Hisil.

And of course, what the Border Marches actually are. We were discussing it in one of Xenu's Paradox' threads and it seems to be some sort of passageway between worlds, like the Hedge, so it'll be neat to see if that pans out or not. Plus a place of strange kingdoms and Plague Kings and Spinner Hags is bound to be intriguing.

Does it make me a terrible person if I kind of want it to be like the world during the time of Avatar Wan in that two-part episode from the Legend of Korra?

This was one of my inspirations, yes Only a minor one, though.

One word: Pangaens. Native beings of the Border Marches that were not inherently ephemeral. Father Wolf was a pangaen.

WHICH EXPLAINS A LOT. Like how he could have physical offspring with Luna, for one.

Also this... kind of makes it even more understandable how the Uratha of the time that would become the Pure were so pissed off. What with their native land being crushed into the Gauntlet. The Pure literally lost their homelands. (So did the Forsaken, but 'they're race traitors so what's your point?')

I love what we're seeing of the Werewolf Neolithic crossover material.

It does mention that The Wolf was weakening, losing his grip on the border. Maybe the Uratha realized that unless they did something the spirit world was going to run roughshod over the material and deliberately sacrificed pangaea in order to slam the door shut.

That is a really interesting take on it. I like that a lot.

It's a pretty cool twist, and one that would only compound the conflict between the original Pure and the Forsaken at that. I kinda like it too.

...Hasn't that always been the reasoning?

Replace Father Wolf so that the spirit world wouldn't run roughshod over the material yeah, but I'm not sure the whole "devastate the Border Marches and erect the Gauntlet in their place to separate the worlds" part was planned.
