  • Canals vs Qanats

While open canals are emblematic of Martian planetary romance, qanats, closed waterways, are probably more practical. It cuts down on evaporation of precious water and avoids the Martian desert silting them up. Besides which, a planetary network of closed tunnels is a planetwide dungeon.

A quite fair point indeed. That said, if there's one thing the Martian desert has in great abundance is sand, making closed waterways with literal glass ceilings, plain or stained , a quite viable and aesthetically distinctive possibility.

I really like this idea! I’m gonna use this if I ever run Cavaliers of Mars.
