Essence and Exigents and Sidereals, Oh My!

Mr Gone got back to me yesterday, so now we've got nice editable sheets for Exigents and Sidereals! Also worked with him on an Essence sheet a while back.

So yeah, go get some nice editable sheets!

I'm more than a little confused/concerned on the At8D update. The last update was "Awaiting art-notes" and now it's "With Maria for ADing."
So is the art in and getting sorted? Or is Maria just now getting art notes 13+ months later?

In Charting Fate's Course there's a blurb that seems to allude to the Bishop possibly originally being a Sidereal. "Among the Exalted, only Sidereals, Getimians, Solars, Abyssals, and Infernals can learn Sidereal Martial Arts. Some rare or unique beings may also be able to learn them or even create them at the Storyteller’s discretion — for example, the Deathlord known as the Bishop of the Chalcedony Thurible can use Sidereal Martial Arts and has created the Albicant Sepulcher of Extinction style, a bleak expression of the Neverborn’s feverish desire for total destruction." And...

  • Here's the blurb from the book.

"Forged by a sorcerer-cataphract to defeat an occult cabal, the direlance Zelator’s long, narrow blade is engraved with an Old Realm character meaning “divine retribution.” The heavy shaft, likewise of orichalcum, bears this Old Realm inscription: “End transgression against the celestial order through harmonious action.” The scarlet tassels are of horsehair from Ostra Luka’s steed, preserved against the millennia by the Art of Permanence."...

Took a looksee at the 3E blurb, seems it less made it more subtle, more just doesn't go into it. "When a sorcerer turns her skin to bronze, calls up a fiery kraken from the molten depths of the earth, or bind the greatest demons of Hell, she is not drawing upon her own Essence. Sorcery manipulates the energies of the world around the sorcerer, shaping it into patterns and matrices that achieve her ends. When a sorcerer casts a spell, the motes that power it are not drawn from her own Essence pools. Instead, she must take shape sorcery actions to manipulate the flow of Essence around her...

Broadly speaking I'm inclined to say it's quite obvious and flashy. My mental image has always been a complicated series of mudras as well as some form of obvious display of essence. (Think a combination of the spell-casting in the MCU and the ninjutsu techniques in Naruto.) Each character's individual methodology probably changes the effect somewhat based on their initiation but at the end of the day it's all brute-forcing the forces of creation to do what you want them to do.

I'd personally rule that you can't cast subtly, but you could potentially disguise your casting as a different...

  • Methinks ill just re-request Wu MA since I was too late last year...

    Wu Ma
Fire Aspect Dragonblooded bandit turned exorcist
    Barrel chested and stocky
Long reddish-black hair tied up in a top-knot
    Long reddish black beard
Mix of Imperial and Varangi (almond eyes and somewhere between tanned and rust colored skin)
Worn leather satchel of exorcism gear
    Ever-present drinking gourd
Wields Zelator from Arms of the Chosen

(Since I suck at descriptions, for much more relevant descriptions I picture him as a mix of Yin Chek Hsia...

The original stated plan (or thing roughly approximating a plan) was that Getimians and Liminals were supposed to be less-fatsplats and release in conjunction with their "opponent" in a vein similar to What Fire has Wrought and The Realm. Where that all stands these day is a secret known only to the gods....

Lessee, most of mine have been mentioned already. Necromancy, awesome Underworld deets, etc.

Lizard Style and Scorpion Style martial-arts, though that's a general "book that isn't out" hope.

The return of the Soul Mirror (Evocations would fit its power set spectacularly)

A more in depth look at the culture around death and funerary rights across Creation. (I'm a sucker for neat setting flavor like that)

A cool "Here's plot ideas" section like Heaven got in Sidereals.

Systems to better support climbing around like...

Unless they throw a hell of a curveball Infernals should be the splat following Abyssals, though as far as I know theres no official details beyond what interesting tidbits are in Essence.

Would I love an insane curveball of Alchemicals first? Of course, but I'm certainly not holding my breath. 😂...

  • The silver tarnishing thing is a real(ish) thing. It's one of the reasons Korean chopsticks are metal and flat. Silver allegedly reacts to poison, so the wealthy had their utensils made of silver to thwart possible assassination attempts, Commoners had them made out of iron/steel so it could look like they were wealthy and had silver, and in both cases metal is expensive so the chopsticks became the small, flat ones we know today to cut costs on materials.

Your evocation ideas sound amazeballs, though! Please keep me in the loop if you ever decide to take a crack at em....

    Chary Counselor's Setting (Artifact ●●)

Huzzah! The forums live again! Figured I'd celebrate by bringing over a little artifact I made that I was rather pleased with. Though I'm lazy, so just copied the whole text...

While talking with some fellow fans about what ridiculous spoils my player's might find when raiding the V'neef compound on Wu-Jian. One of the ideas that was mentioned was "solid moonsilver chopsticks. Not artifacts, just moonsilver chopsticks", which a definitely fun idea but it combined in my head with the interesting history of metal chopsticks and an excellent moment in the criminally...

The last update was Post Editing Development and Awaiting Art Notes, so it's past manuscript approval at least. Very possibly mis-remembering, but pretty sure final approval from Paradox comes in during proofing which At8D hasn't reached yet. Something to really bake your noodle, 3E KS to publish is now shorter than announcement to today for At8D. I'd pay full advance PDF price if it'd even just get me a manuscript in a heartbeat. There's so much new Creation and so many awesome sounding places that only get a sentence or paragraph in everything out so far.

    As for Abyssals, I definitely...

As excited as I am for Abyssals, Essence, and Crucible the book I'm most anticipating is the one showing by far the least movement. The last time Across the Eight Directions made an appearance in an MMN was November of 2021 and multiple books announced after it have caught up or passed it in the pipeline.
